FURNITURE & MILLWORK DESIGN

An interior designer has many skills beyond selecting finishes, space planning and developing construction drawings.  One of these skills is the design of millwork and furniture.

Millwork can range from kitchen cabinets, to a wall unit and even walk-in-closet shelving and cabinets. Often to fulfill a need on a project, a custom piece of millwork is required and it is the designer’s job to produce a design and drawings so it can be built.  On commercial projects, designers produce drawings for product display units, guest service desks, cash desks, restaurant bars, etc.  Millwork can also includes trim and mouldings.

A designer can also design unique pieces of furniture, such as dining tables, credenzas, coffee and end tables, sofas, etc.
